Welcome to Dana's Seminar Language Arts and the Book-O'Rama elective.
Many people complain about having to go to work, but I look forward to it, as I have a wonderful job! During the past 26 years, I have taught grades second through sixth at various San Diego City Schools. Prior to that time, I worked in the field of early childhood education as a teacher, administrator, and staff developer/trainer.
Nine years ago I was offered the chance to teach my favorite subject and grades in my neighborhood school. Teaching at Dana Middle School since 2001, has allowed me the chance to stay in touch with students beyond the time that they are in my class. I enjoy watching my former students perform at high school plays or athletic games. I also enjoy catching up on their current successes and goals when I run into them in the community.
My husband and I have two active college sons. They both attended Dana, Correia, and Point Loma High School. My younger son and I started Dana together the year that the fifth graders were moved from their elementary campus to Dana Middle School. Being a parent has been one of my greatest gifts and challenges. Parenting has aided in making me a more understanding, consistent, and committed teacher.
I love being active! I enjoy aerobic exercise such as walking, dancing, biking, swimming, hiking. My hobbies include reading and jewelry making. Being with my family and friends, learning new things, and being in nature helps me to feel content.
The quote, "If I think I can I will, if I think I can't I won't" works for me in so many situations, and I hope to pass that optimism on to my students.
I am extremely lucky to be a teacher; there is nothing that I’d rather do! I am looking forward to helping my students and their families this year. I hope to make a positive difference in their lives. My sleeves are rolled up, my senses are alive, and my heart is open!

Here’s to a great school year,
Bonnie Elias
