Nurse Kasperick Coordinates Vision and Hearing Screening
Student learning can be significantly impacted by visual and auditory deficits. That is why Dana's School Nurse, Candace Kasperick, devotes several weeks to planning and implementing a screening process to help identify students with sensory deficits.
Dana 5th graders will soon have their hearing checked while our 6th graders will soon participate in vision screening. Nurse Kasperick coordinates with staff members, parent volunteers and community partners to ensure timely identification of visual and auditory deficits.
After the initial screening process, Nurse Kasperick devotes much her time to follow-up for those students who failed their screens. Nurse Kasperick strives to have all referrals cleared by an optometrist, an audiologist or family doctor, depending on the origin of the referral. Nurse Kasperick finds her job most gratifying when she can link one of several community resources to families who lack adequate health insurance coverage.
