Dana Middle School FAQs
My student is not GATE Seminar identified but they were placed in seminar classes at the elementary level. Does this happen at Dana?

All students at Dana are scheduled into partnership groups. Each group consists of two teachers. One teacher handles math and social studies while the other teaches language arts. We have three types of teams at each grade level:

-          Gate seminar (students must be identified as seminar by the SDUSD GATE Department)

-          Gate cluster (must be identified as cluster by the SDUSD GATE Department OR as high achiever by our staff. Our staff uses CST scores and teacher recommendations when identifying high achiever students)

-          Regular

All teacher partnerships are fall into one of the three categories listed above. Students belong to only one partnership.

Some elementary schools place non-seminar identified students in seminar classes because they lack the number of students to make a pure seminar class possible. Dana Middle does not have this problem. Aprox 80 students who attend Dana are identified as seminar by the SDUDS GATE Department. We have enough students to maintain pure seminar classes and therefore we do not allow non-seminar identified students into seminar partnerships.
